Solar modules AKA solar panels are normally the most expensive part of the solar electric system.

Always start out by conserving energy and installing energy saving appliances before planning your solar electric system.

When picking your solar modules you should understand the voltage of the panels you choose. There are 6 volt modules and just as easy to find are 67 volt and higher. If the power inverter or charge controller will be a long ways from the solar array you should use as high of solar array voltage as possible then down convert with an MPPT charge controller. This would save on voltage loss and allow you to use smaller cables and reduce cost. Solar panel voltage on Grid Tie or Grid Tie with battery backup can be as high as 400 volts. You should talk to a solar electric dealer or an installer before buying your solar panels. Let them know what you are planing and get their advice. Sometimes buying higher voltage panels and down converting could be cheaper in the long run.
