Charge Controllers, MPPT/PWM

Charge controllers are a must for any size of solar electric or wind power system. A charge controller could make the difference of replacing your battery or a whole battery bank every two years or every 10 years. - Without a charge controller you run the risk of over charging your batteries on a daily bases. - With wet cell lead acid batteries you will boil the water out making the lead plates hard shorting the life of the battery. - AGM or GEL don’t have water but you can over charge and end their life in just a very few over charges.

A solar charge controller of a good breed will allow you to set how often you would like your batteries equalized if at all. Wet cell lead acid batteries should to be equalized every so many months. However AGM and GELL should never have an equalizing charge put on them.
